Great Neck, N.Y. — Sebastian Zar, a respected entertainment lawyer and beloved member of the Great Neck Jewish community has died. He was 35.
The UMJCA Levaya Committee (United Mashadi Jewish Community of America) confirmed Zar’s passing in a statement shared earlier this week, identifying him by his Hebrew name, Eliyahou Moshe Ben Avraham z”l. The funeral (levaya) was held Tuesday at New Montefiore Cemetery in West Babylon, New York, with family, friends, and colleagues gathering to honor a life described as both driven and deeply compassionate.
Zar, the son of Fariba and Mehrdad Zar, is survived by his siblings James Zar and Kimberly Bloorian (Zar). The family has been receiving visitors at Shaare Shalom Synagogue in Great Neck since Thursday evening, where mourners have shared stories of his character, accomplishments, and generosity.
A Rising Star in the Entertainment Law World
Professionally, Sebastian Zar was widely regarded as one of the brightest young attorneys in the entertainment industry. Having worked with emerging and established artists alike, Zar built a reputation for being both fiercely protective of his clients and deeply ethical in his approach.
A longtime client and friend posted a moving tribute on social media, recalling their ten-year friendship and the lawyer’s early support:
“It’s been really hard for me to trust people in this industry, but you were one of the few who always had my back. You fought tooth and nail to protect me, to make sure I was seen and treated fairly, and you did it with so much heart.”
The post described how Zar represented the client for years, even working pro bono early in his career, before rising to become one of the most respected lawyers in the field — even landing on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list and representing high-profile artists, including Post Malone.
“You never stopped showing up with care, integrity, and passion,” the tribute continued. “Thank you for proving that there are people in this business who can be trusted.”
A Legacy of Integrity and Faith
Friends and community members describe Zar as someone who balanced professional excellence with personal humility. He remained deeply connected to his Jewish faith and heritage, often seen participating in community events and giving back through mentorship and charitable work.
Members of the Mashadi community shared prayers and condolences online, writing, “May the family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Yerushalayim.”
Those who knew Zar say his greatest legacy lies not just in the deals he negotiated or the artists he represented, but in the loyalty and integrity he demonstrated throughout his career.
“Sebastian was one of those rare people who made the world better — not just through success, but through how he treated others,” one colleague said. “His loss will be felt across the industry and our community for years to come.”
Remembering a Life That Inspired Trust
As mourners gathered in Great Neck and tributes poured in from Los Angeles to New York, the consensus was clear: Sebastian Zar embodied the best of both his profession and his community.
He will be remembered not only as a skilled attorney who championed fairness and creativity, but as a friend, mentor, and believer in people — someone who lived by principle, and in doing so, left an indelible mark on those lucky enough to know him.
